Learn FPV in 30 days

A 30-day plan from sim hover to first dive.

No shortcuts. The plan that actually works for most people: simulator first, patterns second, real quad third, flow last. Repeat as needed.

Week 1

Foundations & Simulator

  1. Day 1

    Pick a simulator

Install Liftoff, DRL, or Velocidrone. Plug your radio in or borrow one.

  2. Day 2

    Throttle control

Practice hovering in Acro for 30 minutes. No yaw, no roll — just throttle and pitch.

  3. Day 3

    Yaw + throttle

Hover and turn in place using yaw only. Try a slow box pattern.

  4. Day 4

    Cruising

Move forward in straight lines, then slow figure-8s at 5 m altitude.

  5. Day 5

    Stopping

Forward 20 m, stop in 1 m. Throttle punches & pulls. Read torque.

  6. Day 6

    Rolls and flips

Hover at 10 m. Full power, full roll, recover. Build muscle memory.

  7. Day 7

    Free flying

Just play. Don't grind — play. 1 hour of fun beats 4 of frustration.

Week 2

Patterns & Confidence

  1. Day 8

    Power loops

Punch up, full flip backward, recover before the ground. Both directions.

  2. Day 9

    Split-S

Half-roll, dive, level out. The foundational freestyle exit.

  3. Day 10

    Inverted yaw spin

Roll inverted, spin on yaw, recover.

  4. Day 11

    Race line

Pick 5 'gates' in your sim. Run them as smoothly as possible 10 times.

  5. Day 12

    Slow flow

Slow, intentional lines around obstacles. The cinematic mindset.

  6. Day 13

    Crash recovery

From any orientation, recover before impact in 3 seconds.

  7. Day 14

    Long session

2 hours of free flying. You should be tired and grinning.

Week 3

Real Quad

  1. Day 15

    Pre-flight

Visual check, props on, battery secured, antennas vertical. Range test the link.

  2. Day 16

    Open field hover

Take off, hover at chest height, land. 10 times.

  3. Day 17

    Forward & back

Slow box pattern, eye-level, big open field.

  4. Day 18

    Battery management

Land at 3.7 V/cell under load. Don't trust the OSD blindly — learn the feel.

  5. Day 19

    Higher altitude

Go up 15 m. The world looks different. Practice slow yaw.

  6. Day 20

    First dive

Punch up 20 m, throttle off, dive. Recover at 5 m. Heart rate optional.

  7. Day 21

    Active session

Burn 4 packs, do not rush, end on a good flight.

Week 4

Style & Comfort

  1. Day 22

    Power loops outdoors

Pick a tall tree. Loop around it. Use airspeed for safety, not throttle.

  2. Day 23

    Split-S off objects

From above a rooftop, split-S down. Watch your altitude budget.

  3. Day 24

    Cinematic flow

Pick a path, fly it slowly, smoothly. Watch your own DVR after.

  4. Day 25

    Tune check

Check motor temps after a flight. If hot, drop D gains 10%.

  5. Day 26

    Friend session

Fly with someone. Watching others fly makes you better.

  6. Day 27

    Maintenance day

Replace props, retorque motor screws, clean dust off the camera lens.

  7. Day 28

    Solo session

Just fly. No goals. See where instinct takes you.

  8. Day 29

    Pick a 'trick'

One trick you can't do. Try it 50 times until it lands.

  9. Day 30

    Reflect

Watch day 1 footage vs day 30. You will laugh. Plan month 2.
